INCI: Punica Granatum Seed Oil

A hydrating and soothing oil rich in omega-5 and ellagic acid. This versatile oil is a potent natural antioxidant offering several benefits for all skin types.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Our organic pomegranate seed oil is a bright yellow oil with a thin consistency and a slightly fruity or nutty aroma. It’s extracted by cold pressing the washed seeds of organic pomegranate fruits. It takes over 500kg of fresh pomegranates to produce just 1kg of oil. This oil is so potent that you can use as little as 1% for effective results in skin and hair care products.

Organic pomegranate oil is rich in punicic acid (omega-5), a rare essential fatty acid with several benefits for the skin. Omega-5 is a natural antioxidant that protects the skin from premature ageing, promotes regeneration of the epidermis and stimulates collagen production to keep skin looking smooth, firm and youthful. Studies suggest that omega-5 can be used on sun-damaged skin as a repairing and rejuvenating treatment, though it should not be used as an SPF. As the only known botanical source of punicic acid, pomegranate seed oil is a cosmetic staple for any skincare or cosmetics enthusiast.

As well as omega-5, pure pomegranate oil also contains ellagic acid. This is a natural phenol antioxidant that can protect and brighten the skin. As it’s so packed with antioxidants, organic pomegranate oil is an excellent ingredient for homemade skincare products and hair treatments.

Cosmetic Functions:

According to the Cosmetic Ingredient Database (CosIng), organic pomegranate oil is a skin-conditioning emollient.

HOW TO USE IT

  • Use 1% to 100%. As this is a potent oil, we find that using 1%-3% is effective.
  • Organic pomegranate seed oil is oil-soluble and unsuitable for use in water-only products. However, you may use small amounts in water-based gels, where the oil is held in suspension.
  • When making creams and lotions, organic pomegranate oil is heat tolerant and can be used in the fat stage (stage 1).

As pure pomegranate oil is so rich in skin-boosting antioxidants, it should be blended with other antioxidants like vitamin E or organic rosemary antioxidant to protect the oil from oxidation.

Adding just 2% organic pomegranate oil to a sports massage blend is very effective — even more so if you include fragonia essential oil and plai essential oil.

Combine organic pomegranate seed oil with organic pomegranate glycerol extract in creams and lotions. This will give your skincare products anti-ageing benefits.

This oil can also be used in hair products for excellent results. We love it mixed with argan oil, coconut oil and camellia seed oil for a nourishing hair and scalp treatment.

Benefits of Organic Pomegranate Oil in Skincare:

  • Soothing and hydrating when used directly on the skin or in formulations.
  • Rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A, B, D and E.
  • Omega-5 content limits free radical damage from sun exposure.
  • An excellent anti-ageing ingredient that promotes collagen production and minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Triggers skin renewal for a revitalised look.
  • Organic pomegranate seed oil is suitable for all skin types, offering several benefits.
  • Dry skin: acts as an effective moisturiser/emollient.
  • Oily skin: penetrates quickly into the skin with no greasy residue.
  • Mature skin: improves skin tone, keeps skin pliable and replenishes the outer layer.
  • Normal skin: a great antioxidant that delays signs of premature ageing.
  • This oil can also be used in after-sun products, offering moisturising benefits.

Benefits of Organic Pomegranate Oil in Hair Care:

  • Detangles the hair and makes it smooth and shiny.
  • Improves blood flow to the scalp and balances pH levels. Use pure pomegranate oil with geranium essential oil for a soothing scalp treatment.
  • Can be used as a hair oil to reduce frizz.
  • Softens and strengthens the hair.
  • Provides some protection against heated styling tools.
  • Protects the hair from oxidative stress.
  • A natural cleanser and emulsifier.

New to CBD? Not sure where to start? We've got you covered!

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, another well-known compound found in cannabis, CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it won't cause the "high" associated with marijuana use.

CBD is extracted from the hemp plant, a variety of cannabis that contains only trace amounts of THC. It is then processed into various forms, including oils, capsules, edibles, and topicals, which can be used for a wide range of purposes.

CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes, such as pain sensation, mood, and sleep. This interaction can potentially lead to a variety of health benefits, including pain relief, reduced inflammation, improved sleep, and reduced anxiety and depression symptoms.

Is CBD legal?

In most places, including the UK, certain CBD products are completely legal to buy and consume. However, please check local legislation before purchasing or consuming any CBD product.

How can CBD help me?

CBD, or cannabidiol, has been shown to potentially provide a wide range of benefits for various conditions. Some of the most commonly reported benefits of CBD include relief from pain and inflammation, reduction in anxiety and depression symptoms, improvement in sleep quality, and management of epilepsy and seizure disorders.

Additionally, CBD may have neuroprotective properties, meaning it could potentially benefit those with neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.

However, it's important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of CBD use.

It's always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement or treatment.

Will your products get me high?

No. All of our products contain less than 0.2% THC as per UK/EU laws - please view our Lab results page for more information.

Our products contain no THC so you will not get high/stoned. Our products do contain CBD, CBG and other legal cannabinoids, but you won't get high or stoned like you would if you smoked regular cannabis.

...however, you can get "high" with the entourage effect.

How much CBD should I take?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a type of cannabinoid, one of many compounds found naturally in cannabis plants. There are many different vehicles for consuming CBD such as oils, tablets, capsules, gummies, chocolates, creams and more. Choosing how to take it might seem like the first step, but it might actually be more useful to determine how much you want to take first...

Everyone is different, this means that everyone’s preferred dosage might be slightly different too. You may need to experiment slightly to find a dosage that works for you but here is some information for you to consider

The Food Standards Agency in the UK recommends the maximum daily CBD dosage of 10mg. This advice should not be applied directly to CBD products that are inhaled or applied dermally, nor does it consider exposure from such product types.

Consumers on regular medications should seek advice from a medical professional before using any type of CBD food product. Consult a health professional before using CBD if pregnant, breastfeeding or taking other medication.

Our edible products are food supplements and should be taken as part of a varied diet and healthy lifestyle.
